I scanned the top ten online dating sites not long ago and found one common mistake. Too many profiles say nothing - literally. If your profile only has a few lines lamenting about how you don't like to describe yourself, then you give no one reason to contact you.
When you say "if you want to know something, ask", consider this: 1) there's no content for someone to ask about 2) you're making the other person do all the work of collecting information from you 3) you're presuming that just showing up online is enough to generate interest, which it isn't.
You have a lot of competition out there. So say something and do your best to make it relevant.
